5 Architectural Sites in DJQ You’ve Never Heard Of

DJQ is one of the oldest settlements in the five boroughs. Named after the Munsee word “Jameco,” its story spans centuries — from Lenape roots, to a Dutch settlement, and its rise as a 10th-century transportation and commercial hub — DJQ is rich with historic sites you’ve probably never heard of. Here are five architectural sites in DJQ you must visit:

1. King Manor Museum

Originally the house of Rufus King, a farmer and early antislavery advocate, now turned into a historical museum where guests have the special opportunity to learn about the legacy of a founding father and the starting roots of the abolitionist movement. Plus, enjoy free admission!

2. Grace Episcopal Church

A beautiful Episcopal church that highlights the English Gothic Revival architecture. Surrounded by verdant greenery, it is a striking difference compared to the industrialized markets of DJQ, allowing people to take a breather from the busy roads and enter a world calmed by the soothing presence of nature.

4. Valencia Theatre

In the midst of modernization, this theatre stands out as something that came straight out of the Victorian Era. From the outside, a breathtaking gothic look, and from the inside, a traditional red seat-gold wall theater that categorized the roaring 20s. A bold and breathtaking traditional architectural site surrounded by modernized buildings.

5. 161st St Chase Bank

At first glance, this bank looks like a police station right out of a movie. Already quite an amazing site to behold, as if you’re a star in a super hero movie. But upon entering, the vast, dark space makes your voice echo and your mind blend into complete calmness. It’s like the beautiful modern architecture of an airport without the chaotic rush to the terminal.

An Honorable Mention: Law Library of Queens County

Straight from the Renaissance Era, this astronomical building supported by colossal columns makes you feel as if you’ve just stepped into Ancient Greece. This combined with the vast stairs can give anyone who glances a reminder of how truly tiny they are in the universe.
